Who are we?

Telehealth (i.e. telemedicine) efforts across JHM are fragmented and often broadly included under other headings such as "distance learning".  Additionally, telemedicine activities/projects address needs that cut across departmental lines (information technology, clinical departments, finance, legal, etc).

In recent years we have seen that acceptance and use of telehealth around the country is rapidly growing. Telehealth is an integration of technology with community outreach, education, research and clinical service. JHM has the potential to lead in this area.

In 2003, an interdisciplinary, interdepartmental group was organized to facilitate and support specific/departmental projects as well as seek opportunities for the institution with other organizations currently engaged with telemedicine, such as corrections institutions, managed care organizations and the military. This group hopes to identify and initiate these opportunities and share in the benefits of a collaborative effort.

The JHM Office of Telemedicine was established to advance the desire and facilitate sharing among a variety of telemedicine efforts across JHM.
