JHI Telehealth Programs

In the dynamic world of medicine, healthcare professionals are challenged to keep up with the latest research and clinical knowledge to help them deliver the highest quality patient care. JOHNS HOPKINS INTERNATIONAL TELE-HEALTH SERVICES is an effective way to meet this challenge, providing value-added educational and clinical services to providers as well as patients.

Utilizing technology that is relatively inexpensive and easy to use, Johns Hopkins faculty members and hospital administrators are connected to institutions around the world in programs that are tailored to meet specific clinical and institutional needs.

Medical Second Opinion Service: A Medical Second Opinion (MSO) is available to patients, physicians and referring organizations seeking an objective assessment of a challenging case.  The MSO, provided by a Johns Hopkins specialist, includes a thorough review of the medical record and a description of available treatment options. It is recommended for complex diagnoses, surgical procedures, and cases in which there is doubt as to the proper course of treatment.

Physician-to-Physician Teleconsultations: Doctors at Johns Hopkins collaborate with consulting physicians to address complex patient cases via telephone and videoconference. These sessions can also be used for follow-up after treatment at Johns Hopkins.  Peripheral telemedical devices (such as tele-exam cameras) may be required to enhance the interactions among physicians.

GlobalAccess Lectures: Johns Hopkins faculty, clinical staff, and administrators are available to deliver live, interactive lectures on a wide range of clinical and health management topic. Sessions last 60 minutes, including a 15-minute question and answer period. Most lectures are in English, however on occasion, some are available in other languages. The GlobalAccess Lectures have provided great benefits to the local medical communities in other countries of the world, for example Argentina, Costa Rica, Lithuania, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Peru, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates.

Colleague Information Exchange:   International specialists can interact regularly with their Hopkins counterparts via videoconferencing technology. This ‘mini-rounds’ program provides an opportunity for colleagues to discuss the latest advances in their specialty and potential research and clinical collaborations.
